What this tape is

Gripweave Double Sided Carpet Tape is a translucent mesh cloth tape with adhesive on both sides. The mesh cloth backing gives the tape strength while staying thin enough to sit under a rug without adding a lump. Both faces carry adhesive, so one side grips the floor and the other side grips the rug, carpet or mat above it.

The tape is translucent, so it blends into most floors and does not stand out at rug edges. It is made for carpets, rugs and household surfaces indoors. Use it on hard floors, on low pile carpet, and under door mats that slide when people walk over them.

Sizes and options

Pick the width, length and pack that match your job. Wider tape covers more surface and holds heavier rugs. Longer rolls suit larger rooms or several rugs. A 2 roll pack keeps a spare roll on hand for later.

Width Length Pack
0.4 in (1 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) 1 roll
0.4 in (1 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) 2 rolls
0.4 in (1 cm) 32.8 ft (10 m) 1 roll
0.4 in (1 cm) 32.8 ft (10 m) 2 rolls
0.8 in (2 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) 1 roll
0.8 in (2 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) 2 rolls
0.8 in (2 cm) 32.8 ft (10 m) 1 roll
0.8 in (2 cm) 32.8 ft (10 m) 2 rolls

A good rule of thumb: use the 0.4 in (1 cm) width for small mats and light rugs, and the 0.8 in (2 cm) width for larger rugs and areas with more foot traffic.

Where to use it

This tape is made for indoor use on carpets, rugs and household surfaces. Common spots include:

  • Area rugs on hardwood, tile, laminate and vinyl
  • Runners in hallways and entryways
  • Door mats that shift near a threshold
  • Small mats in the kitchen or bathroom
  • Rugs under furniture that tend to creep

The tape works on hard floors and on carpet. On carpet, press the rug down well so the tape reaches the carpet surface below. On hard floors, the tape holds best when the floor is clean and dry.

How to apply it

  1. Wipe the surface clean before applying. Dust, grit or moisture weakens the bond.
  2. Let the floor and the rug backing dry fully.
  3. Cut a strip of tape to the length you need.
  4. Peel the backing from one side and press the tape onto the floor along the rug edge or under the rug corners.
  5. Peel the backing from the other side.
  6. Set the rug down over the tape and press firmly.
  7. Smooth the rug from the center out to push out any air.

For a large rug, place strips near each corner and one strip along each long edge. For a small mat, two strips are often enough. Press firmly over the whole taped area so the adhesive makes full contact.

Care and removal

Wipe the surface clean before applying, and press firmly when you set the rug down. Check the tape now and then. If a corner lifts, press it back down or add a fresh strip.

To remove the tape, peel it up slowly from one end. Pull at a low angle and keep steady pressure. Any sticky residue left on a hard floor can be wiped away with a cloth and warm water. On carpet, work the tape up in small sections so fibers are not pulled.

Store unused rolls in a dry spot at room temperature. Keep the backing on the roll so the adhesive stays clean until the next job.

What you get

Each pack contains the number of rolls you choose: 1 roll or 2 rolls. Each roll is translucent mesh cloth tape with adhesive on both sides, in your chosen width and length. No other items are included.
