What this tape is

Grit Surface Anti-Slip Stair Tape is a roll of safety tape with a matte, textured grit surface on an adhesive backing. The grit gives shoes and bare feet something to grip, while the adhesive holds the strip flat against the surface below it.

The tape is made for stairs, floors and steps, indoors and outdoors. Use it on bare wood, painted steps, concrete, tile or metal. A strip along the front edge of a step adds traction right where feet land, and a short piece at a doorway or in front of a sink does the same job on flat floors.

Sizes and colors

Each roll is 16.4 ft (5 m) long. Pick the width that matches the job. A narrow strip suits a step edge or a small patch, while a wider strip covers more of the tread.

Width Length Best for
0.98 in (2.5 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) Step edges, small patches, tight spots
1.97 in (5 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) Standard stair treads and doorways
3.94 in (10 cm) 16.4 ft (5 m) Wide treads, ramps, larger floor areas

Seven color options let you match the space or make the strip easy to see:

  • Black: low profile on dark steps and floors
  • Black and yellow: high contrast for visible edges
  • Clear: blends into light surfaces
  • Black and glow-in-the-dark green: visible in low light
  • Yellow: bright and easy to spot
  • Red: stands out against gray or neutral steps
  • Black and white: a clean striped look

How to fit and use it

Start with a clean, dry surface. Dust, grease and loose paint keep adhesive from holding, so wipe the area down and let it dry fully before you begin.

  1. Measure the step or area you want to cover and cut the tape to length with household scissors.
  2. Peel back a short section of the backing and press the tape into place at one end.
  3. Work along the strip, peeling and pressing as you go, so no air stays trapped underneath.
  4. Press the full strip down firmly, especially at the edges and corners.
  5. For a step edge, center the strip on the front of the tread and wrap it slightly over the nose if you want extra grip there.

Let the tape settle before heavy use. On outdoor steps, apply it on a dry day and give the adhesive time to bond before rain or foot traffic.

Where it works

Indoors, this tape suits basement stairs, garage steps, laundry room floors, workshop benches and any smooth floor that gets slippery. Outdoors, it fits porch steps, deck stairs, concrete walkways and garage entries.

Because the grit surface is textured, it also adds a bit of grip underfoot on painted or sealed surfaces that get slick when wet. Cut pieces to fit landings, thresholds and the area in front of a door.

Care and upkeep

Sweep or vacuum the tape now and then to keep grit clear of dust and grit from shoes. A damp cloth works for light cleaning. Avoid harsh solvents and heavy scrubbing, which can wear down the grit and loosen the adhesive.

If a corner lifts over time, press it back down while the surface is clean and dry. When the grit wears smooth or the adhesive no longer holds, peel the strip off and apply a fresh piece from the roll.

Questions

How long is each roll of anti-slip tape?

Every roll is 16.4 ft (5 m) long. That is enough for several stair treads or a mix of step edges and small floor patches.

Which width should I choose for stair treads?

The 1.97 in (5 cm) width fits most standard stair treads. Use the 0.98 in (2.5 cm) width for narrow edges and the 3.94 in (10 cm) width for wide treads or larger floor areas.

Can I use this tape outdoors?

Yes. It is made for stairs, floors and steps indoors and outdoors. Apply it to a clean, dry surface and let the adhesive bond before rain or heavy foot traffic.

Does the tape come in a glow-in-the-dark option?

Yes. The black and glow-in-the-dark green color option is visible in low light, which helps mark step edges in dim areas.
