What these stair tread mats are

These are carpet stair treads made for wooden steps indoors. Each mat has a low loop pile surface of polypropylene, about 0.2 in (5 mm) thick, on a non-slip PVC backing. The edges are bound, so the mat holds its shape on the step. The flat profile lies on the tread and stops short of the nose, which keeps the front edge of your wooden step visible.

The low loop pile is firm underfoot and easy to vacuum. The PVC backing grips the step and helps the mat stay in place as you walk up and down.

Sizes and fit

These stair treads are made for steps 30 in (76 cm) wide or wider. Measure your step width before you order. If your step is wider than the mat, center the mat on the tread.

Step width Fits
30 in (76 cm) or wider Yes
Under 30 in (76 cm) No

Measure the depth of your tread too. The mat lies flat on the step and stops short of the nose, so it does not wrap over the front edge. This flat shape suits wooden stairs where you want the wood at the nose to stay visible.

Colors and patterns

You pick the color and pattern when you order. The options are:

  • Brown stone
  • Gray lattice
  • Beige lattice
  • Black stone
  • Beige stone
  • Black lattice
  • Brown lattice
  • Gray stone

Stone patterns have a soft, mottled look. Lattice patterns have a small repeating grid. Beige and brown warm up light and medium wood tones. Gray and black give a quieter, more grounded look on darker steps. All colors come in the same low loop pile and the same non-slip PVC backing.

How to use them on wooden stairs

Start with a clean, dry step. Wipe away dust and grit so the PVC backing can grip. Place the mat flat on the tread, centered, with the back edge close to the riser and the front edge short of the nose. Press down along the whole mat with your hands.

Check the fit before you walk on it. The mat should sit flat with no curl at the corners. If a corner lifts, press it down again. Repeat on each step, keeping the same spacing so the run looks even.

These mats are for indoor use on wooden stairs. They are not made for outdoor steps or for wet areas.

Care

Vacuum the mats often to lift dust and grit. For a deeper clean, machine wash them. Follow the care label on the mat and use a mild setting. Let the mats air dry fully before you put them back on the steps. Do not put them back while they are damp.

Check the mats now and then. If a mat shifts or a corner lifts, press it back down. Keep the step surface clean so the backing keeps its grip.
